24-hour Serenity

Serenity depends on the attitudes you bring to daily living, and it's not hard to retain the right attitude for just one day - Essence of AA

THE CONCEPT of living within this one day can fit in with almost any other suggestion. For me, it was especially necessary to think in 24-hour units in order to get any real working value out of the Serenity Prayer: "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference." At first, that was a prayer and nothing more to me. However, when combined with 24-hour thinking and action, it is really great. Then I can work on it, and it becomes a most useful and forceful instrument in everyday living. It is no longer only a prayerful supplication or plea, a wishful hope for guidance, but rather an intensely practical approach which I use through many trials and problems.
