'Harmless' medicines

Your January issue is excellent (as they all are), but I particularly liked the "Your Doctor Can't Help You" article--this was needed! I took a dose of cough medicine that had been prescribed for me by a doctor who knew I was alcoholic. When that old familiar warm glow started spreading out the minute it hit my stomach, I called him up and asked whether there was alcohol in it. He laughed and said, "Oh sure. But you could drink the whole bottle and not get drunk." That's all he knew!
