The Trouble with Mother
Sometimes you can't please her, no matter how hard you try
ONE OF the young women in our group told us, "My mother said to me, 'Why don't you leave those AAs and come back to Eastern Star, where you belong?'" I laughed uproariously--a little too uproariously, perhaps, because the remark hit home. Only a mother like mine could say a thing like that. I knew then and there that both my young friend and I have problems with our mothers. I understood and identified with her, and I am a man twice her age.
