And now, a note of sanity on the subject. . .Bill W.As Bill Sees It--the AA Way of Life

Our English cousins, it seems, are struggling to understand anonymity just as we are here. The following items are from Newsletter, English equivalent of the Grapevine. With tongue in cheek, they project into the future two extreme positions on anonymity.

The year is 1995, and AA's entry into the publicity game is causing difficulties, as the TV critic of a Sunday newspaper points out. . . .


WOLFGANG SNARLE'S comment last week on Late Night Lineup that "Sobriety can be fun, but why can't it last?" may be causing AA's publicity men to think again. Snarle was referring to BBC's Stay Sober With the Stars and ITV's Sobriety Show, both with high ratings and both causing headaches to producers because of high casualty rates among the stars themselves. I learn that AA groups holding "Meet a Star" evenings are also running into similar problems. "We've no business in show business" in AA, it seems!
