Comfortable with God

He was rebelling against "religiosity" until he realized that the spiritual and the earthly are governed by the same laws

WHEN I FIRST came into AA, I had a hard time accepting God-as-I-Understand-Him. I realized that sobriety--although absolutely essential--was not enough. My sponsor had said plainly that I was likely to slip unless I enlarged my spiritual life. The Big Book said that willpower and self-knowledge alone were not enough; that even the sober alcoholic at certain times has no effective mental defense against that first drink; that if I was to have a defense, it would have to come from a Higher Power.
