OAKLAND, CALIF.--The friends who turned out for Ernie Nickerson's memorial service were the jailers who watched over him on his hundreds of visits to the city drunk tank. Mr. Nickerson, who died at the age of 66 years, had been jailed more than 200 times since his first arrest in 1935 for public drunkenness.
