Film Review - 'Fat City'

Because it is a movie of unusual integrity, it is likely to appear on many "ten best" lists for 1972 and to reappear in theaters as a classic in the future. Most critics and moviegoers see Fat City (directed by John Huston for Columbia Pictures, with a script adapted by Leonard Gardner from his own novel) as a story about the hungry fringes of the fight game, or perhaps about hopeless nobodies still hoping for the life of luxury and ease described in the slang expression of the title.
