Sense and nonsense on the road to recovery

SIGNS OF THE TIMES DEPT.: Down south, two institutions seem to be waning. One is the outdoor privy, which, according to a government report, is giving way to more formal and less drafty facilities. The second is the moonshine still. Its decline is unexplained, but no less real. The production of illicit hooch in the hills of South Carolina has fallen off eighty-five percent, resulting in the closing of four regional offices of the revenooers.
