Carrying the Message

"Serenity, Steve! Sobriety, Steve!" I can't remember the many times I heard those words from a fellow I worked with. However, I do remember laughing at him and calling him a fool for even mentioning AA to me, let alone asking me to attend a meeting with him. Now, as I look back after my short association with AA (three months as I write this "Thank you"), I wish I had gotten the real, heartwarm meaning of those words. So many mornings, I would come to work half-drunk from my morning fix, and he would look at me and say those words to me, and I would call him an alcoholic--not realizing I was one myself, until it was almost too late.
