DURING HIS VISIT, the vet also mentioned the baroque and bizarre--but truthful--excuses he has used to explain his absence to various hostesses. One of them didn't know where he worked and was taken aback when he announced, "I can't be there tonight. I'm sitting up with a sick gorilla." Now there's one we should have thought of!
