A SPONSOR is very important. A great help in sustained sobriety. Friend, confidant, and adviser. An AA sponsor can help where legions of daunted professionals have failed. There is only one other individual more important to a good recovery than a sponsor. In some parts of the world, that person is called a baby or a newcomer. In my city, they call that person a pigeon.
