Insofar as a drug brings pleasure, as alcohol, marijuana, and others sometimes do, it is only one of many sources of possible pleasure, meaning, or identity. No drug is harmless; none is inherently beneficial to life; none will solve school or family problems, rebuild neighborhoods, or convert expediency-oriented politicians into altruistic solvers of human problems.
