Carrying the Message

Reader's opinions wanted

I would like a few answers from readers, if possible, on two subjects. One is: Just what is AA's attitude toward recovering alcoholics' professionalizing their sobriety in any way? For instance, in a halfway house, in industry, in an alcoholic rehabilitation center, etc. I'm talking about a person who has no qualifications for this other than being in the program. I was told when I came in that my sobriety was a gift and that one does not use a gift lightly, particularly for selfish ends. I have felt that this means I should not try to earn a living by taking advantage of my sobriety through the AA program. However, most people I know in the program disagree with me, and as I am open-minded and interested in what is the right thing to do or to tell people whom I help, I am searching for an answer.
