Carrying the Message
Four months after discovering the miracle of Alcoholics Anonymous in the New Jersey shore area, I was transferred to a small station in North Africa. I left with mixed emotions, to say the least. The compulsion to drink had been left outside the doors of my first AA meeting, but was I strong enough to leave the mainstream of AA and be able to continue this daily success that had immediately transformed my life into such a wonderful experience? Like on other overseas tours, would my first official act be the purchase of as much "almost free" booze as my ration card would allow, starting the descent toward the end of the assignment?
