My Name Is Dick

MORE THAN TWENTY years of no-limit drinking accumulated before I became willing to seek help from AA. Even then, it was not exactly a free choice. An Air Force psychiatrist told me it was either AA or a hospital, and I resented the fact that it was in his power to carry out such a decision. AA seemed the better alternative, since there was less risk of jeopardizing my chances for military retirement. Little did I then realize the magnitude of this decision or what immediate and subsequent changes were in store for me.
