Sir Hans Krebs, a British Nobel Prize-winning scientist, has discovered that the human intestine is a distillery where dietary sugars are fermented into ethanol to the equivalent of one quart of 3.2 beer each day. Ethanol is the chemical name for the alcohol in beverages and spirits.
