LONDON, ENGLAND--There are more drunks in Britain than ever, and middle-aged men are hitting the bottle harder than anyone, the government said. Home Office figures showed the number of offenses for drunkenness in England and Wales zoomed to a record of 86,735 in 1971, an increase of 4,361 over 1970 and a 3.3% increase over the previous peak of 83,992 offenses in 1962.
