Carrying the Message

Simply 'Keep it simple'

I feel compelled to write another view of "Keep It Simple," which appeared in the January issue of the Grapevine. Particular mention was made of the fact that Dr. Bob's now-famous remark was taken out of context; but I believe his mention of Freudian complexes was merely an example of the complexities to be encountered on the road to recovery. The statement, when taken entirely in context, is a generalization of a truth: If AA is to remain a functional organization, it cannot be bound by cumbersome complexities. The fact that the saying "Keep it simple" has survived these many years proves its value and meaning to members of AA all over the world.
