AND THEN THERE WAS the fellow standing at the ocean's edge, shoveling like mad and cursing under his breath as the water kept filling up the indentation in the sand caused by his shovel. Another of our brethren of the bushes stumbled onto the scene, studied the shoveling operation at some length, and then asked, "What are you doing?"
