The Green-alligator Mitten

A happening that brought joy and a moment of wonder

WALKING PAST One Beacon, I spied in the gutter a tiny green mitten, or so I thought. I moved along, with something of a song in my heart. Within the hour, I had left the company of warmhearted friends in the Sahara Club, which, for the uninitiated, is where the AA "elite meet to eat." A few minutes after that, I had been sauntering by the slick new shops built over the ruins of old Scollay Square. Even if you are from some far-off place like Seattle, and you are in AA, you probably knew Scollay Square. Sorry, fellers, but it is now Government Center. . . .R. I. P.
