The U.S. Jaycees, through their 6,500 local chapters, are launching a three-year community alcoholism education and prevention program. Materials sent to all chapters stress contacting local alcoholism services, so that Jaycees projects do not duplicate, but rather enhance and extend community activities in the field. Called Operation Threshold, the program will focus primarily on prevention, promoting responsible drinking practices for those who choose to drink and fostering a new national attitude about alcohol and its role in American society.
