Carrying the Message

Years ago, the writer introduced an idea which is now standard procedure in all groups in this city. We request all newcomers at their first meeting to please refrain from putting anything in the hat. Sometimes this causes resentment, which the chairman allays by telling the new boy that the next meeting he can put in double.
