Carrying the Message

Why mention age?

In sharing my experience, strength, and hope, I must be honest. I have heard and seen some members of our program over forty years of age become resentful and closed-minded when the terms "under forty" and "young people" are used in any context. I realize this is their problem, but I also believe that these members aren't seeing what the primary purpose of using a distinction in age can do. I believe that it can save lives. I believe that if more young, sick, suffering alcoholics were aware that there are other young alcoholics who have found recovery from their disease, more would come, look around, and stay to share with us our answers in Alcoholics Anonymous.
