The Loneliness of Noninvolvement

It's not quite enough to just come and sit and go

AS I WRITE, I am reminded of the novel and film title The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Runner. It is so descriptive of my nearly eighteen years of unbroken sobriety. The fault, of course, was mine. I thought it sufficient to attend meetings regularly, listen attentively, and leave promptly. I avoided any participation and all involvement. AA was a thing apart; my family was my whole existence. With only a portion of the program to sustain me, no wonder there came a day. . .
