The Last Drink

Around the Tables

AROUND THE TABLES, it is not what I have done since the last drink, but the fact that I can speak of "the last drink" that is of crucial importance to the new person. To be sure, I am laughing, not crying; realistic, not pessimistic; joyous, not sad; positive, not negative. My condition points up the significance of the time interval between the last drink and now. But to the newcomer, the fascination of living without alcohol is so far removed from his reality that at first he probably can't see the beauty of not drinking.
