Once Over Lightly

Sense and nonsense on the road to recovery

APPARENTLY, THE MAN in this anecdote was no sportsman, being city-born and -bred. Anyway, while touring in Canada one summer, he stopped at a small rustic inn for an overnight stay, and spent most of the evening in the bar, wetting his whistle. In the course of things, he noticed a stuffed moosehead hanging on the wall and asked the bartender what manner of animal it might be. The barkeep identified it and went on to explain that the animals lived well away from the village; but occasionally, during mating season, some of them would get quite wild and charge right into town.
