The Doctor's Obligation

In clinical practice of every type, no patient is more ubiquitous or less desired by the physician than the alcoholic. If someone identifies himself openly to the physician as suffering from alcoholism, he immediately finds that he is shuffled off by referral, usually to Alcoholics Anonymous. Frequently, however, early identification simply does not occur at all.
