"Most of my alcoholics tell me they began drinking when they were about 13 years old," says Grant Griffiths, alcoholic rehabilitation counselor at Haverford State Hospital in suburban Philadelphia. The hospital has an adolescent unit for treatment of young persons from 13 to 20. The unit has treated more than 500 adolescents since 1965, and of that number, 28% had a history of alcohol abuse.
