Those 'Civilized' Drinkers

France is having second thoughts about its dubious distinction of having the world's highest alcohol consumption per capita. Official figures list average consumption per capita as 30 gallons of wine and 10 gallons of beer. Statistics also note that 30,000 Frenchmen are killed annually as a result of drink, but skeptics say the total actually is closer to 100,000. They say that in many cases doctors don't dare bring in a verdict of death by alcoholism because it would displease the family.
