AA's universal language

I received my one-year medallion recently. At the end of the meeting, a stranger (at the time) came up to me with an interpreter, who told me that this stranger wanted me to have something of his. This man, unknown to me and to everyone else present, handed me his ten-year gold medallion, and, through his interpreter, said that he hoped it would help to guide me through ten years of sobriety. I was flabbergasted, for this stranger--God bless him--was from Helsinki, Finland, and this was his first visit to Canada. I now realize the true friendship that exists worldwide for each member of AA.
