I Can't Wear Two Hats'

Trying to run the show for another alcoholic is too much of an ego trip

MY FOURTH AA anniversary caught me unawares. I was preoccupied with putting out the coffee gear at that night's meeting and was surprised when birthday cakes were brought in. They had to be set out, with accompanying ice cream, and I was a bit miffed at having more chores to do. Then the chairman asked, after mentioning those who he knew had birthdays this particular month, if there was anyone else he might have overlooked. It dawned on me that I, too, came stumbling into this wonderful Fellowship in the month of June, in 1970. (I'm still not sure whether it was the 19th or the 20th.) So I raised my hand and was included almost as an afterthought.
