The Outstretched Hand

A FEW DAYS ago, I was delivering some typing to the ward of the mental hospital where I work. As I went toward the nurses' station, I noticed a small, elderly lady seated in a geriatric chair (somewhat like a high chair on wheels). She stretched out her hand, palm up, whenever anyone passed by.
