I'm writing this note from a hospital. I'm here getting dried out after over three years of sobriety. I was given a copy of the May 1972 Grapevine. This may be the salvation of a hopeless alcoholic. I just finished reading the article "How AA Works," and it has really made me aware of the simple truths that I'd been missing before, when I made meeting after meeting and got no sense out of them, except that a lot of the stories related by other drunks were highly amusing. This article has shown me just how deep and far-reaching the Twelve Steps really are. I'm going to keep and treasure it as long as I live, and I will try to memorize parts of it. I'm sure that this is a God-sent weapon in the struggle ahead of me, for a sober and decent life.
