Self-help Groups

How victims of disaster band together to strengthen and support each other

MAN'S BANDING together for a common purpose is not unique to our culture. Historically, deprived members of society have often grouped to improve their lot, obtain psychological or physical support, seek justice, and relieve anxiety. Members of self-help groups, unlike victims of some disaster, frequently have suffered in isolation, coming to the realization of their more public and social involvement only after their contact with other similarly suffering individuals.
