Once Over Lightly

Sense and nonsense on the road to recovery

AN ELDERLY FARMER had fallen into the habit of driving his team of mules into a nearby village each Saturday night and getting drunk. When the tavern closed, he would climb into the back of his wagon and fall asleep, whereupon the faithful mules would haul him back to the farm. There, his grown-up sons would put the animals in the barn and Papa to bed.
