Coping with depression

I have had two rather serious spells of depression during my fifteen years of sobriety. The first one may have been the result of an illness, and I was hospitalized for about ten days and given electric-shock treatment, which was very effective in lifting me out of the doldrums. The second depression could have been the result of a move and changes in my life of a radical nature; again, I was hospitalized but had a quick recovery. So, naturally, I would strongly recommend that anyone having a severe or lengthy depression should be hospitalized or seek help, rather than allow the depression to drag on and on.
