Anonymity and Me

I had been sober four months. I had kept my AA membership a dark secret. The inevitable day arrived when I received an invitation to my Uncle Paddy's home for one of our frequent liquid family celebrations. Everyone greeted me with hoots of approval, telling me how marvelous I looked. I walked through the clan gathering all evening drinking soda. My hand trembled each time I poured a soft drink. After five hours, my Aunt Sarah looked at me and said, "I see you are drinking it in soda now, Ed." I was amazed. They had not paid the least attention to what I had poured in my glass!
