Never-ending gratitude

"A Doctor's Inventory," in the April Grapevine, is one of the finest things I have read in regard to the alcoholic and his thinking. When I first came to AA in May 1944, I asked the same question--"Why me, God?"--many, many times. Finally, someone gave me an answer: "I don't know why I am an alcoholic, either. But there is one thing sure and certain: If you stay sober, you can spend the rest of your life trying to figure it out. . .if it is still that important." That did it. I stopped bugging the Lord trying to get an answer, and I must admit that a lot of experiences the last few years have changed my rebellion to humble gratitude.
