In the midst of the action

I have been in AA sober, or at least dry, since April 20, 1945. I enjoy AA meetings and the Grapevine more now than I ever did. "Professor Winkley's School for Counselors" (June issue) is a scream, I'm approaching seventy-one. I am the type that when someone hurts a friend, they hurt me, too. I am known as a teller of risque stories, and my general pattern of speech is rather lurid. I am not at all sweet to new people--especially men--young men in their twenties--the ones we used to run off in my early days of AA. We have many fine young men and women in our various groups here in Wichita now. It rather surprises me to see the extremely large number of women we have here now--most of them doing a fine job.
