No outstretched hands

Last night, I attended my first meeting in a community I have just moved into. In and out of AA since 1960, I have now been sober a little over two years through the help and fellowship of AA. One of my main problems in achieving sobriety was my overwhelming need for people to talk with. I have always had trouble beginning conversations with strangers. Once the initial words are said, I am fine and can usually go on from there. But those first few words are extremely difficult. I know I am not unique in this problem, and this is where the blessing of an offered hand can do wonders, not only for newcomers to AA, but for newcomers to a group.
