PO Box 1980
Recently, a detail of volunteers (servicemen will recognize "volunteers") cleaned and waxed the floor of the large auditorium in the church where our group has met these many years. The detail consisted of (a) men who are truly craftsmen, work with their hands, and have the beautiful knack of knowing how to get things done, and (b) me. My phase of the job was the soaping, which means that I swabbed the floor with hot soap and water. My ineptitude was easily covered up by the gifted men who came after me--the polishers and the men with all-round expertise.
We volunteers had a truly fun evening because of the spirit engendered by my fellow alcoholics. Despite my aching back, it was a beautiful evening, thanks to the detail and especially to AA for allowing me to share this wonderful experience.
