AROUND THE TABLES, there are those who, for some strange reason, not only don't count their chickens before they hatch, but refuse to count them after they have hatched. Either course is a plain rejection of the more positive side of the Tenth Step, taking personal inventory. It is absurd to talk about all the negative aspects of one's life when, for perhaps the first time in many years, the speaker is clean, wears holeless shoes, matching socks, and a shirt and a coat, has a car, has money in his pocket and in the bank, and is not currently in jail or a mental institution.
