I believe the new person has a right to know that AA consists of a Twelve Step program of recovery from alcoholism, making no mention of rituals to be followed in opening or closing the meeting; that each member's relationship to a Higher Power is as you understand Him; that the Fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous (contrary to the opinion of some) is not necessarily Christian; and last, that holding hands while reciting the Lord's Prayer is not a requirement for admission to any AA group. Let's give 'em all a chance.
