IN THIS ANECDOTE, it probably was the wife who felt like hammering her alcoholic husband, because her prized chest of silverware was missing and she suspected he had pawned it. Since the poor guy suffered from prolonged blackouts, he didn't know whether he was guilty or not, but denied it fervently anyway.
