AA's Preamble tells us that, among other things, "we are self-supporting through our own contributions." My first reaction to this statement was that AA had supported itself before I came along and would probably continue to do so long after I had gone. My financial condition in my early days of membership was anything but healthy. In fact, the prospect that AA might assume responsibility for my support appeared more to my liking.
