THE MIRACLE of my recovery started before I arrived at my first AA meeting, I met a wise physician in New York on a Sunday morning. As I approached his office, I had every intention of telling the usual lies to cover up and justify my alcoholic escapades. When I sat down, however, he asked, "What brings you here?"
