In twenty-four years of steadily strengthening sobriety, I've seen many fail who subscribed to the do-it-your-own-way theory or the running-about-and-socializing way. But never have I seen anyone fail who really absorbed the first sentence of Chapter 5 and got with it! That sentence, which describes the experience of the founders of AA and the earliest members, tells us, "Rarely have we seen a person fail who has thoroughly followed our path."
