From happy hour to AA hour

For many years, I experienced keen delight in my participation in activities designed to "adjust the attitude." These occasions were in the guise of cocktail parties, receptions, stag parties, pre- and post-game bull sessions, pre- and post-conference discussions, and the plain old ever-popular happy hour at taverns and cocktail lounges. In the beginning, these events were infrequent and 'most always pleasurable. They usually achieved the desired result--to make one happy, glib, friendly, and charismatic. Gradually, over the years, they became more frequent and eventually a daily routine, less and less pleasurable, and often leading to disaster in some manner for me, my family, and others associated with me.
