They need to know

Bravo for "Reaching the Public" (July issue)! I agree we must let the public know we exist. With the widespread ignorance of the disease of alcoholism--that it is a lack of willpower, a moral issue, he works too hard, his wife nags, etc.--those of us in the program should be anxious to reach the public to educate them and let them know that there is probably an AA meeting in their town. If we go forth to discuss alcoholism or AA with anyone who is not a drunk, such as doctor, schoolteacher, minister, boss, co-workers, family, friends, we are censured as "breaking the Traditions." I wish those in the program would support the ones who want to reach the public, instead of yelling how wrong we are. Help, don't hinder.
