The Counselor
Do our attitudes toward professionals affect our ability to carry the AA message to newcomers?
RECENTLY, I had dinner with a lawyer who, like me, is a member of Alcoholics Anonymous. During the meal, my friend said, "These alcoholism counselors hand me a pain. The nonalcoholic ones don't know what they're doing, and some of the alcoholics are just newcomers themselves. Yet there they are, telling others what to do. AA would be better off without government interference and profiteers getting into the act."
